Eroticism of the Map
been toying with this idea/draft for months and finally banged it out
Games seem incapable of depicting truly sensual scenarios when it comes to sex. Whether due to character models colliding awkwardly, the general juvenile regard sex is held within the AAA space, or a reticence to address adult themes such as intercourse. Instead we find eroticism in an unexpected place: the open world map.
The best open world video games will not fully reveal themselves to you at the outset. They know that the excitement lies in the foreplay. Immediately revealing itself removes the arousal of slowly uncovering it for yourself. The map is generally shrouded in some form of fog, wrapped in varied transparencies to lure you in. The unknown entices the player, bewitches them into removing more of it. This act is done at the player’s desire, due to the game’s teasing, and little by little is undressed and stripped bare.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom replicates the revealing towers of the first game, this time ejaculating Link into the sky so he can bear witness to Hyrule’s shape to record and ogle over every detail. There is a greater concentration of undressing in the depths, which made it the most pleasing to engage in. Shadow masks the land, requiring you to uncover and see it on both a micro level (shooting light seeds), and on a macro level (finding lightroots).
We understand that the tease is more fulfilling than the reality of the act. Red Dead Redemption 2 continually cockblocks Arthur Morgan from exploring the original game’s locations but taunts you with its existence within the veil. It is not until the game’s epilogue that you are able to enter it, but when you do you will find it mostly empty and be left unfulfilled.
What I’m trying to say is there isn’t good sex in video games. So starved I’m jacking off to the map in Red Dead Redemption 2.
