What were we yapping about a year ago [2.24.24]
and do we still care?
Occasionally I will go on the wayback machine to be reminded of what people were talking about a year ago during this past week. Sometimes it helps put into perspective that things that seem very important right now are actually not worth the time/energy. It also can be a reminder of things forgotten, and maybe that they were forgotten for good reasons.
February 20-26, 2023
- Atomic Heart reviews came out. The game was mostly regarded as mid and joined my Morbid Curiosity list. I played about ⅓ of it or so due to being on Game Pass and have kept thinking about returning and completing it ever since. Crispy Critters.
- IGN Fan Fest was held and announced nothing in particular. They did it again this year, though did you even know that?
- Metroid Prime Remastered reviews came out, everyone still loves it.
- Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard and subsequent discourse and announcements were ongoing, and would continue to be ongoing all year.
- PlayStation held a State of Play livestream which showed us Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. It looked so bad it was delayed into 2024 two months later but even that couldn’t save it from being a waste of time for everyone involved. We also got a BioShock 4 trailer in the form of Judas. The opinion afterwards was that the State of Plays are not “must watch” events, and still aren’t. At least we got to learn about Humanity from this one.
- Sons of the Forest was a massive success in early access launch, and began to pick that momentum back up thanks to its 1.0 release just recently.
- The Super Mario World expansion of Universal Studios Hollywood was now open and reports of what the theme park was like began to eke its way out, pretty much everyone liked it.
- Misc Discord comments: Speculation about Zelda being playable in Tears of the Kingdom went unrewarded.
