What were we yapping about a year ago [3.16.24]
and do we still care?
Occasionally I will go on the Wayback Machine on the Internet Archive to be reminded of what people were talking about a year ago during this past week. Sometimes it helps put into perspective that things that seem very important right now are actually not worth the time/energy. It also can be a reminder of things forgotten, and maybe that they were forgotten for good reasons.
March 10-16, 2023:
- Adam Driver’s movie 65 released, the type of film to run on FX for the next decade.
- The PC Switch-like Ayaneo 2 was reviewed on IGN. After the popularity of the SteamDeck you’d be forgiven for forgetting about the “other” handheld PC gaming devices that also tried to capture the Switch market: Alienware UFO, GPD Win 2 (and 3), Aya Neo, and Lavie Mini. Leave it to Valve to take something you would probably only see in a corner of booths in the South Hall during E3 and make it into a multi-million seller.
- Microsoft dips from E3 2023. An early sign that E3 would die, permanently this time, we promise, for realsies. What was once a week-long event has now become a months-long slog of limp taped-for-YouTube “livestreams.” E3 is dead, long live E3.
- The Last of Us finale aired. John Wick: Chapter 4 released. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves released. James Gunn’s new DC cinematic universe began it’s pre-production and PR. Shazam! Fury of the Gods released. Evil Dead Rise released. Fuck you its Forever!
- Pizza Tower released.
- “Mario” day of March 10 is just a repulsive celebration of a brand and company that consistently threatens people with life-long poverty for daring to hack or emulate their massively successful product(s).
- The government was trying to ban TikTok, and now they’re doing it again.
- The spiral of ZA/UM’s downfall continued.
- The Silicon Valley Bank collapsed.
- Square Enix announced an NFT game in the year of our Lord 2023, somehow it actually did release in December.
